Fellas, the conversion gears are grinding in my head again. With swirls of rumors of a possible Chaos Guard Renegade Codex/White Dwarf mini-dex on the brink of being released....I'm starting to lose sleep. I've recently started building a IG army themed around everyones favorite strategy game X-Com, but I'm feeling the army isn't 40K Lore friendly, and a bit cartoonish. I'm thinking of forgoing the X-Com route and going full bore Chaos Renegades.I've seen some wonderful conversions and ideas across the internet. It's inspiring me, but want something of my own, and to go full bore on painting/conversions/exotic bases. Forgeworld has some interesting pieces, but I want to convert everything so I'm trying to stay away from their Renegade conversions packs. Paint schemes are a bit of a mystery. Want to lean on a Khorne theme, but may just lean towards a weathered/rusty/undead theme of the Cadian colors (Olive drab and khaki). I want tons of Chaos Iconography! So a few ideas I'm thinking of:
2. Incorporating the above but instead of Cadians, possibly mixing some Marauders of Chaos legs with Bezerker/Chaos Marine torsos for the whole army.
3. Going balls out crazy and incorporate Beastmen bits instead of Maxmini heads from Fantasy into ideas number 1 or numbers 2. Essentially a Demon army with ranks. Too outlandish? Not lore friendly?
4. Maybe using War Games Factory gasmasks or Pig Iron Production gas masks....or even Kolony Feral heads.....
I think I had a few more ideas last night....but I've forgot them already. Open to any and all suggestions/comments.
Mixing in Beastmen with the maxmini heads would be kind of cool and they would definately fit as they have been tainted by chaos. I like the WWI german style helmets though not crazy about the faces. They look kind of orkish.
ReplyDeleteThe skull faces are well suited. Why not has a squad of each or a mix of each in each squad. The gifts of chaos do come in all flavors.

ReplyDeleteI'm second guessing the 1st idea. Bell of Lost Souls did an article on Renegades using those heads. They look to Goblinish....I agree, love the helmet, not the faces as Joel pointed out. Thinking of mixing ghouls/zombie/ungor heads with Cadian hemlets. Just ideas at this point.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is bad ass!!! Love the skull-head motif for a theme! Regarding beastmen tordos, I think the mutant concept will be great in keeping with 40k fluff. I foresee all kinds of horrifying banners and chaotic markers with in your army. I'm already jealous!!!
