Day 67
My team had been Oscar Mike for three days. By chance we linked up with some
survivors that were holed up in an abandoned warehouse. They were set up well enough for the moment
but had suffered terrible casualties in recent weeks. The patriarch of the camp was an older man named Zim. We hit it off really good and it was decided we could combine our numbers. Zim probably appreciated the extra firepower just as much as we appreciated his food and booze.

So, you're probably asking yourself, "what's this all about?" Well, I recently picked up a PDF of 'Ambush Z' from the Ambush Alley Web Site... Zombies, Guns and Girls... well, not really any girls.
Regardless, I really enjoy the play dynamic of the game... I would say, the rules are quite possibly the most tactically realistic for small unit combat on the tabletop. With that said, I want to expand the basic game into a narrative campaign where experiences of an encampment, positive and negative, will be documented and carried on into the next mission. Each player will run an encampment of survivors. They'll track their camps number and types of units, food and special items that are scavenged through the course of the campaign. However, when a guy dies on the table or is 'turned' you lose the guy from your camp. This will force players to really make hard choices and stray from suicidal tactics/actions. This also means when your survivors are all gone the game is over for you and you get to be the full time zombie guy for awhile.
I'm also building an extended Scenario list as the book only comes with 4 or so. Oh, and I've changed the functioning of Victory points. Sure, you win the game with them but at the end you'll be able to spend them on scavenging rolls from one of three different tables. You'll be able to acquire new units, replenish old units, find new gear and gain bonuses for future missions that would otherwise not be available.
As for the story, we'll flesh that out as a group. For now, it is the zombie apocalypse... but there is so much more.
As for miniatures, we've play tested with 28mm. It is very fun and engaging but the amount of different unit types and need for more space has driven interest in 15mm... which is also the scale that the game was built around in the first place. So, I'm currently building modular terrain to support the game and will begin painting up all of the 15mm models as well.
That's it for now... stay tuned for more "Survivor's Journal".
Dude for a second I thought this was some "field" work you were narrating. Sorry didn't reply to the email yet. Pretty damn busy lately. Interesting find, haven't gone trough it with a fine tooth comb yet, but looked interesting. Loved the Zombie shots in the rulebook. As far as your proposal, very involved, reminds me of Oregon Trail with some Walk Dead thrown in for action!
