So, Ryan and I hit up the local Mai Tai bar and spent an hour or so discussing the development of a 40k Campaign. We'll need to add a few more members to our group before we begin a rotation but we've at least committed to the process.
Example: Player Luco has just won his first game and lays claim to a territory with a Manufactorum. After reviewing the Territory Bonus List (TBL), Luco discovers the Manufactorum provides an additional Heavy slot available to his forces for future battles. This doesn't provide him a free unit, only the opportunity to field an additional Heavy choice.
We've decided to section off a decent sized map and attribute basic bonuses to each section/territory. From there we'll blog out images and a story line for every game. We'll probably dedicate a blog site to the effort to better encapsulate the experience. Check out the precept below for force allocation...
FORCE ALLOCATION
The following represents the beginning force structure for all players:
0-1 HQ
2-4 Troop (Compulsory)
0-1 Elite
0-1 Heavy
0-1 Heavy
0-1 Fast Attack
0 Super Heavy
This structure will be modified by claimed territories which increase the maximum available in a particular category.
This could be a great way to slowly explore 40k as games could start out relatively small and build up slowly. I've also seen campaigns where units can gain experience over time and get additional gear or stat bonuses. Might be something to think about.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! I could totally see additional gear and/or a bonus for an experienced veteran unit, like in Kill Team. We could institute something like that a few games down the line.
ReplyDeleteOne more day boys!!! Then I'm going to put up the campaign map and add the TBL.
ReplyDeleteFell behind today but I should make it up tonight. I've been skimming through Google Earth to find a suitable area for the campaign map.
ReplyDeleteSimple enough. 3rd edition rule book had rules for upgrading squads based on experience. From what I remember the rules were very difficult for the likes of gaurd and orks to gain experience because it depended on leadership rolls if you lost more than 50% of the squad or was completely wiped out.
ReplyDeleteAnyway it is a place to start.
