Beating a dead horse

I am sure that you guys are sick of hearing me complain about this snow, but one more time anyway. Look at the difference!! The picture was shot saturday morning after I had applied the snow and given it about an hour to dry so it is still a little wet.

THIS IS KILLING ME.

I am not insane. I will not repeat the same failures from before so have done something different to hopefully get different results. The big change is .... the glue. I thought about the sample base I completed and it is still white, if a bit slushy looking. The only differnce was the type of glue that I used and being locked in the case for a week. I changed the glue and while I have to put them in the case I have applied a matte spray varnish on the model so that any potential leeching that might be happening from the case.

It has been 3 days I have not looked at them since Saturday. I am going to check it now. When I return you will get my unfettered response...

Hell yeah! 3 days and there is not color change; but there wasn't before either. See...

Aside from the snow I picked up some plasticard saturday and started to work on the snow speeder. I tried reworking the cockpit but I think I am just going to black out the cockpit with black ink or paint. Whatever I was going to create wouldn't be worth showing off. Plasticard takes a lot of patience. I will post pictures if there is any progress and stay tuned for the snow piss check.

  1. Interesting that the glue caused the problem. Have you thought about trying to paint over the yellow snow? Maybe a couple layers of water down white to not lose the detail?

Well just got my Hotel reservations and Flight for San Deigo trip 2. So new Dark Eldar come out Nov. 6. My flight is on Nov 7. DAMMIT!!! I've been waiting for how long, and now any progress on a new Army is delayed even further. I'm pissed!!!

  2. Yeah I tried it but maybe I just didn't thin it out enough but it just looked like crusty nasty paint.

I think I will just scrape it and start all over again. I want it to look just right and the way it is now takes away from the feeling.

  3. Joel! Glad to hear your Lord Commander is satisfied with the color of snow falling on the planet. It looked good before but I know what it means to hit the bar you set for yourself. By the way, what types of glue did you use both times? I had used plain Elmer's but am probably going to shift to tacky glue I found at Michaels. I'm concerned about how the bases will hold up over the coming years. Any ways, I'm motivated to see your continued progress and look forward to your snow speeder!

  4. The sample base I used Elmers glue. The discolored base I used a generic version of Elmers glue that said dries clear but I guess not. This time I used a slighltly watered down trim wood glue that dries clear (at $7 a bottle it had better dry clear!).

I am going to wait another weak or so before I scrape the others just to make sure that I won't turn in the two week window that the first set turned in.

The snowspeeder is just about finished. Right now I am waiting on some bits to 40k it up a little bit and I am still deciding about trying to thicken it up. It is a larger scale as where the pilot seat held the one person If I really wanted to pack them in I could fit about 4 models in there. But honestly, if an ork truck can hold 20 orks or a wave serpent can hold 12 eldar or a rhino can hold 10 space marines, then my snowspeeder can hold 12 IG.
