The fluff behind the commissar according to GW is that they are seperate from the units that they fight with and so usually don't have similiar uniforms as the others. I wanted something that ties the Hoth theme with the established fluff for the Commissar. The areas inspired by the traditional Commissar are the red hat and shoulder pads and gold trim as that is the traditional paint scheme of the commissariat. The Hoth additions are the blue trench coat and the black pants. Why? Well think about the commissar as an outsider and when you think of the Hoth battle who is the outsider? I'll give you a second and while you think look at the picture.
Han Solo! Han wore the blue trench coat while wandering around the base and while out on patrol on the tauntauns. Notice how he even has the black pants with the gold stripe down the side. That is attention to detail.
You maybe asking yourself, So whats with the flaming quad-bladed axe? Obviously, that is there because it is awesome! I've always wanted to do a quad-bladed axe so I did it. I green stuffed the fire on the top because I had extra after filling in the major gaps on the snowspeeder and instead of letting it go to waste I decided to try my hand at sculpting. I don't think it came out that bad though the painting of it is off a little bit.My next post will be of the infantry and the background for the regiment/homeworld.
Cool dude. I'm sorry I have to make this joke....when I saw the close up I thought....this must be his oh face. Seriously, good job on your first face. Wished mine looked that good when I started. Hell your eyes look better than mine! I love the sarcastic writing, makes the article the much better. That quad axe rocks. Good conversion, love the flames & the excellent attention to detail. Damn dude that is pretty damn awesome. When I saw him I immediately thought of Han Solo, not a Mordian Guard. Mission Accomplished. Now shoot your Sergeants!
ReplyDeleteI hope my Dark Eldar are half as cool as your Hoth guard. Damn I can't wait to get home and start them!!!
Thanks dude. When I showed it to the kids they said he looked scared. I should have used the yellow snow formula on that one. Oh well. I wish I had a steadier hand though.
ReplyDeleteThe face turned out good and I love the fire coming out of the ax (and the nifty fuel canister).
ReplyDelete"...and he shall guide them through darkness with the light of the Emperor."
I am slightly color blind when it comes to reds and often I see orange when Blood Red is used as a primary color. Not sure if you would consider accommodating my disability with Red Gore :)
Otherwise, a great addition to what are believed to be loyal followers of the Emperor. Please note, a Templar strike force has been dispatched to investigate Warp anomalies in a major province of Hoth.
Damn it! I wish I had thought of the qoute.
ReplyDeleteI tried the red gore first but it looked to bland with the dark blue. I wanted that pop of color to make him stand out a bit.
Maybe when I expand to 2000 points I will try that with the lord commissar; whenever that will happen.
2000 points....uh no!!!! Imagine 2000 points, all troops and heavy weapons. Man you could have like 240+ models. That would be awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteThat would be absolutely insane but I would love to see it! Hell, take a Baneblade or 2 and that could cut the number significantly. I don't see any army being able to stand up to firepower of that magnitude... "we'll last longer than we will against that Death Star. And we might just take a few of them with us."
