So you ask me is it great? Well.....
............ of course it is.
Even as I figure things out I think I am confident that I will still like this one even as I make changes to the others.
Possible changes to the snowspeeder include but are not limited to: the pilots, the paneling on the rear of the cockpit, the rear gun (?), and possibly the underside.
As you can see the pilots are prepared to be shot down and take the fight to the enemy on the ground with their cadian flack armor and shoulder pads. Honestly, I used the parts because I wanted to get started. I like the helments they look like something a pilot might wear but otherwise the rest may have to change. You can't see it from the picture but the pilots don't have legs. I ordered the pilots from the valkyrie and I will try them out on the next one. I like the control panels that came with the snowspeeder so I don't know what I will have to do with the valkyrie pilots.
The little plasticard looking thing in the picture on the left behind the navigator is there only to break up the view from the front when the top is on since both of the IG guys fit in just the pilot's seat i need somthing to block the view. How much I do to the pilots really depends on what it looks like after it is painted and the tinting I give to the window with the inks.
I like the rear gun. But the only thing that I would change is that instead of using a heavy bolter I may have to pay for a heavy stubber or use an autocannon instead. Maybe it could be a bit bigger. If I could find a clear plastic dome of the right size I would consider making a ball turret. Would that be too world war IIish? Any way the bottom is what it is. I am not sure that I could do anything with it. The two rectangles with the smoke launchers at the back are supposed to be access points. The smoke launchers could be chaff or just smoke launchers either would work.
I did order the valkyrie base so it should sit up nice and high. I am excited. Too bad I have to paint it.
What do you think?
Dude that's looks sweet as hell!!! I can't wait to see it painted. I don't want to see it on the battlefield thought. Seriously, the conversion is perfect. It's just enough to make it look 40kish and still fits the Hoth theme. Great job dude. The 1st ones perfect. It's so perfect, I don't want you to build another one. Seriously, don't build another one....I beg you don't build anymore of them!!!!!!!!!!! Aghhh!!!!! They've surrounded me before I rolled for initiative test!!!!! AHHH!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRegarding the pilots, are you going to do the Orange & White jumpsuit? That would be cool! Or the typical Hoth Suit?
ReplyDeleteJoel! I absolutely love it! I think all the panels are fine. I'd stick with a rear gun with some kind of optic sensor instead of a ball turret... will save you time/effort. I really dig the underbelly access points... in a futuristic world where jump and grav technology exists it makes perfect sense that you could deploy troops in such fashion. Great job with that!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see this thing mounted and on the battle field. You going to paint it in the traditional fortress gray?
This was motivating as hell and well worth the wait!
Yes i am going to paint the pilots orange and white. The snowspeeder itself will be painted grey with at least one color stripe for squad marking. I thought of trying to do a camo scheme but my put that off. I don't konw right now.
ReplyDeleteThe paneling really is horrible. What I didn't show off was that it was asymetrical. Apperently, the model and plasticard are the perfect material for my modeling glue because I got one try with getting the plasticard on there.
I have another 2 waiting to go but I am going to paint this one first and then start building the others. I have to get the bits for the others. Those valyrie bases are expensive as hell. Funny thing is even with all of the bits it is still half as much as buying a valkyrie from GW!
