This past weekend was an absolute blast! Two of my best friends rolled in for more than 9 hours of table-top warfare AND beer. I dusted off my Black Templars and took on Hoth-themed Imperial Guard and a Genestealer Cult (Witch Hunters). Both battles pushed our tactical acumen to the edge and you really didn't who was going to win until the last 2 rounds. I'm generally used to playing large point games so I could feel every casualty in the smaller point games. My favorite moment of the entire night was flanking the Hoth Guard (IG) with a squad of Templars and ripping through more than 30 IG (4 different units); and only losing 4 Templars! Other notable events included: the Emperor's Champion holding off 20+ IG by himself before paying the ultimate price; a priceless "straddle" of a barricade spike (dangerous terrain) by a Hoth Guardsman to get a shot off with a meltagun which would destroy a BT Dreadnought and save countless IG lives; and lastly the ultimate suicide rush of genestealer cultists into the maelstrom of whirling chainsword blades and boltpistols; the Genestealer HQ held up for 4 rounds before finally yielding to the Emperor's Champion and accompanying Initiates.
FOR THE EMPEROR!
Good post. Like the cat sleeping. Yeah had a blast too. Great to roll some dice and watch your own guys die by the handful. Man I can't wait for Dark Eldar. Lots of ideas formulating. Though some of the rumours are discouraging about the codex. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteYeah dude. I must say though, your genestealer cult is probably the most original thing I've seen on the table. Don't lose the momentum!!! I want to see a Gentealer Brood Lord railing a female slave of sorts... doesn't have to be human! Anyways, I think Dark Eldar are going to be your army. They have the perfect blend of fight and flair and I think they appeal to your painting caliber and personality more than any other army. Yeah, Nids were cool but they lack personality. Dark Panzees have loads of personality! ...even if it is to fuck or kill everything that moves...
ReplyDeleteI think I used "personality" too many times...
ReplyDeleteThat camera of yours is great. The clarity and sharpness of the pictures even when close up is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThe IG are really cinematic looking with their gobs of cannon fodder.
I am still on the fence about the snow. There were some pictures where it looked okay and then there were others that just looked dirty. What to do? What to do?
Good post Justin, problem with the 'Nids is too much under or over powered models. It will be nice to have fast vehicles. Speed is really what I want.
ReplyDeleteJoel, the snow bases looks fine if you ask me, hell they look awesome as a group as you said. Try finishing the remaing unbased guys and see how they blend in.
On a Darker note, more ideas formulating for Dark Eldar. Not digging the pirate tall ships though. I think I might try to convert them to reflect more of the new Jetbikes look. A floating platform finished off with the jet engines and three blade fins in the back. Maybe plastic card the body some to make it less tall ship looking and more of a Skiff from Star Wars. Goddamn I wish the models would come out!!!
Joel - the snow is great. Maybe it is snow from acid rain or an industrial area which gives it a light yellowish tint.
ReplyDeleteJonny - Sorry to hear you're so busy with the job. I actually like the pirate concept of the Dark Panzees. I like your thoughts on skiffs and sail barges EVEN MORE!!! I too can't wait until they come out (even if it is just to see the scantly clad Sisters of Battle slaves.
5x Neophytes and a Chaplain in Terminator armor are on the painting table. Hoping to see the Neophytes finished tonight but I'm already buzzed. Oh yeah, I ordered a further 20 DF bases and am looking to get a $100 worth of Forge World accoutrements. Not sure why I didn't get these during deployment!!
Gents, we need to talk Apocalypse battle for December... Ryan, if you are reading you really need to plan on coming down!
