So five days of painting yields 5x Neophytes. I'm not overly impressed with how they turned out but I'm glad with my decision to start with these guys as they can be considered the cannon fodder of the Chapter. Also, I kept them a little blande since they're the newbs of the chapter and hadn't earned many honors. Anyways, by the end I was much more comfortable painting the 3 edging shades but am still not entirely saitisfied with skin and eyes... will need much more practice.
Big take away is you can't work on more than 2 at a time and don't add the snow to the base until you are done with the entire squad: 4x guys have slush and 1x guy has a dense pile of snow. Will prob add more to the post tonight so stay tuned...
All I can say is wow, excellent use of bits, the paint jobs look clean as hell, the bases are fantasic and perfect for that paint scheme. Great job dude.
ReplyDeleteWow dude, THANKS! I loved painting every part of these guys and looked forward to coming home everynight to continue the effort. I quickly realized I had to find a stopping point for each model so I could keep going... I think I could have spent all week on one guy!!! I also have about 70 models to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteI have the next 5 Templar Initiates and a Terminator Chaplain primed and ready to go. I think I will take them on one at a time and enjoy the fact that each require 6 less paints than the Neophytes (mainly greens and flesh tones). Going to time the first Initiate this evening to see how quickly I can get through him. My guess is 2 hours, but I'm not factoring in the new tabbard I have to paint. If 2 hours is the magic number then I'll be able to paint an entire squad on Saturday (unless I pick up a Land Raider tomorrow). FOR THE EMPRAH!!!!!
Very nice!! Your skin looks alot better than anything i've done. You at least try eyes so I wouldn't beat yourself up over them; they look fine.
ReplyDeleteStay focused! No land raider unitl you get through the other stuff you need to for 1000 points.
Thanks dude! I really needed that advice. Tomorrow, I'll probably get a couple Rhinos and some Space Marine blisters...
ReplyDeleteI hit up Hobbytown today to swap out some 40k box sets the woman had picked up. They didn't have much of a selection so I ended up with a Predator Tank and 5 more Neophytes(scouts). I'm a little disappointed as I would have bought tons more if they had a better selection. Will probably convert the Predator so it may act as a Rhino Razorback or Predator tank. That should save me about a hundred dollars!!!
ReplyDeleteWill finish 5 Templar Initiates today and start converting the next batch. I'm actually stunned out how well the Initiates are turning out... should have a group shot posted tomorrow night sometime.
Joel! Any progress with the Snow Speeder?
Snow speeder is slow coming. I am still waiting on bits. Once I get the bits in I will finish it and post it before it is painted. I already got my second snowspeeder in the mail but I will probably change the pilots and the rear gun somehow.
ReplyDeleteThe snow bases are finished and will be taking pictures and posting the background info.
